2010 Outback Bowl:
Northwestern Wildcats vs. Auburn Tigers

It is every year that in the Raymond James Stadium at Tampa, Florida, a college football event is held. Formerly, the bowl game was popular with the name Hall of Fame Bowl which had a running period from 1986 to 1994. It was not until such time that the game at Tampa acquired an official sponsor that the name was changed. As of 1995, Hall of Fame Bowl was no more and made use of a completely different name, Outback Bowl. This change of name was done in honor of the bowl gameís official sponsor, Outback Steakhouse.

While the bowl game held the identity as Hall of Fame Bowl, games were played at Legion Field in Birmingham, Alabama for the years 1977 to 1985. In 1986, given the motion made by the National Football Foundation alongside College Hall of Fame, the venue of the games was changed to Tampa Stadium, and eventually to the Raymond James Stadium in 1999.

The last bowl that took place in Tampa was that of the Cigar Bowl which graced the football stadium from 1947 to 1954. That said, the transfer of the games to Tampa marked the first bowl to be played there in years. It is also considered as probably the first major college football playoff to be held in Tampa since the Cigar Bowl mainly involved smaller colleges in the area.

Unlike many other bowls, the bowl in Tampa is organized by the Tampa Sports Authority and has had strong tie-ups with the Big Ten Conference and the Southeastern Conference. Get your Outback Bowl tickets early to witness this game live!
